What a telesales agent does that a lead-calling agent does not
Most AI calling is about reaching people quickly: ringing a new enquiry, confirming a slot, reminding someone of a payment. Telesales is a different job. The agent has an offer to put across, the customer may say no, and the call is only worth anything if it ends in a sale, a committed next step or a clean refusal.
That makes the script the product. A good AI telesales agent is not a recording with branching buttons; it is a conversation with a goal, a pitch, a list of permitted answers and rules for when to stop. If you only need first-contact qualification, the AI sales agent page covers it. This page is about selling an offer on the call itself.
The anatomy of an AI telesales call
| Stage | What the AI does | Where a human steps in |
|---|---|---|
| Opening | Greets in the customer's language, names the business and the reason for calling, asks if it is a good time | Never needed; if the customer asks for a person, the call can be transferred |
| Discovery | Asks one or two questions: current policy, last order, usage, budget | A complex needs analysis |
| Pitch | Presents the offer from the brief in plain words, with the price and benefit that matter | Custom pricing or bundles outside the brief |
| Objections | Answers the common ones: too expensive, already have one, call later, send details | Negotiation beyond rules you set |
| Close | Agrees the next step: confirm the order, send a WhatsApp link, book a callback or a slot | High-ticket contracts, signatures |
| Wrap-up | Records outcome, objection, sentiment and any custom fields | Reviewing the transcripts of hot leads |
Each stage is written into the agent's brief. You decide what it may promise, which discounts it may mention and when it should stop and hand over. It will not invent an offer you did not give it.
Where AI telesales works in India
- —Insurance renewals: calling policyholders ahead of the due date, confirming the premium and sending the payment link by WhatsApp.
- —D2C and ecommerce reorders: customers who bought a protein tin, skincare pack or water-purifier cartridge 45 days ago and are due to buy again.
- —Coaching and edtech: offering the next batch, a test series or a course upgrade to enquiries who did not enrol.
- —Telecom and broadband: plan upgrades, renewals and new connection enquiries in the local language.
- —Gyms and wellness: membership renewals and add-on packages.
- —Dormant customer reactivation: a polite win-back call to someone who has not ordered for six months.
The pattern is the same: the customer already knows you, the product is simple enough to explain in two minutes, and a sale does not need a site visit.
Selling in the customer's language
Telesales lives or dies on rapport, and rapport is mostly language. A Telugu-speaking customer in Vijayawada being pitched in stiff English-first Hindi hangs up in ten seconds. Outpero is built as the specialist in regional-language voice AI: Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam and Indian English, switching to English the moment the caller does.

The same offer can run in several languages at the same per-minute price. Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Odia, Urdu and Assamese are not supported, so customers who prefer those need human sellers.

Objection handling: what it can and cannot do
Write the five objections your best seller hears most, and the honest answer to each. The agent will deliver them naturally and adapt the wording to what the customer said. It will not push past a firm no: a clear refusal is recorded as the outcome, and the contact is not called again if you set it that way.
What it cannot do is read a customer's mood across years of relationship, improvise a bespoke discount or win an angry customer back. When a call turns that way, set a rule to transfer to your team or flag the summary for a human callback.
What AI telesales costs
There is no setup fee, no monthly subscription and no contract. Calls are billed per connected minute from prepaid credits that never expire: Standard ₹5, Premium ₹6.8. A dedicated +91 number is ₹649 a month with one channel included, and each extra channel is ₹649 a month. Prices exclude 18% GST.
| Comparison | Arithmetic | Result |
|---|---|---|
| One telesales executive | About ₹18,000 a month, one call at a time, one shift | Fixed cost whether or not calls connect |
| Same ₹18,000 on Standard | ₹18,000 ÷ ₹5 | 3,600 connected minutes |
| Same ₹18,000 on Premium | ₹18,000 ÷ ₹6.8 | About 2,650 connected minutes |
| A 4-minute renewal call on Standard | 4 × ₹5 | ₹20 per connected call |
| A 4-minute renewal call on Premium | 4 × ₹6.8 | ₹27.20 per connected call |
The cost question that matters is not the call but the sale: if a renewal is worth ₹6,000 in premium, even a modest close rate easily covers ₹20 of talk time. Measure close rate on your own list rather than trusting anyone's average, and start small. The 50 free credits at signup let you hear the pitch before you spend anything.
Compliance for telesales calls
Selling is promotional, which makes the rules stricter than for service calls. Under TRAI's TCCCPR 2018, promotional calls must not reach numbers on the DND registry, senders must be DLT-registered and calls belong in daytime hours. Calling your own existing customers about their renewal or order is the safest ground; buying a list and cold-pitching it is the riskiest.
Outpero calls from a DLT-registered line and screens bulk campaign lists against DND. You remain responsible for consent and for the accuracy of what the agent is allowed to say, which matters most in regulated products such as insurance, where IRDAI rules govern how products are described.
How to evaluate an AI telesales agent
- —Give it your real script and your five hardest objections, then call it as a sceptical customer.
- —Check it stays inside what you allowed: no invented discounts, no medical or investment promises.
- —Confirm there is a clean handover to a human, and see what the call summary looks like.
- —Look for outcome data you can act on: objection raised, next step agreed, sentiment.
- —Ask whether you pay per connected minute and whether there is any setup or platform fee.
AI telesales is not the tool for selling a ₹1 crore flat, a complex enterprise contract or anything that depends on trust built over several in-person meetings.
