How do you calculate cost per lead with AI calling?
Cost per lead with AI calling is total calling spend divided by the number of qualified leads the calls produce. On Outpero, if 1,000 enquiries yield 650 connected 2-minute calls on the ₹5 Standard voice, spend is ₹6,500 plus ₹649 for a number. If 130 of those calls qualify, cost per qualified lead is about ₹55. Prices exclude 18% GST.
Two different costs per lead
Marketing teams usually mean cost per lead as ad spend divided by form fills. Once AI calling is added, the more useful number is cost per qualified lead: everything spent to generate and qualify a lead, divided by leads that are actually worth a salesperson's time.
Step by step
- 01Connected minutes = enquiries × connect rate × average call length.
- 02Calling spend = connected minutes × tier rate + ₹649 for a dedicated number.
- 03Qualified leads = connected calls × qualification rate, read from the captured fields in the leads database.
- 04Calling cost per qualified lead = calling spend ÷ qualified leads.
- 05Full cost per qualified lead = (ad spend + calling spend) ÷ qualified leads.
A worked example
| Line | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Enquiries | From Meta lead ads | 1,000 |
| Connected calls | 1,000 × 65% | 650 |
| Minutes | 650 × 2 | 1,300 |
| Calling spend | 1,300 × ₹5 + ₹649 | ₹7,149 |
| Qualified leads | 650 × 20% | 130 |
| Calling cost per qualified lead | ₹7,149 ÷ 130 | about ₹55 |
Now add ad spend. If those 1,000 form fills cost ₹150 each, that is ₹1,50,000. The full cost per qualified lead is (₹1,50,000 + ₹7,149) ÷ 130, or about ₹1,209. Calling adds under 5% to the total, which is why calling every lead fast is usually worth it.
What moves the number
- —Speed: leads called within 30 seconds tend to connect and qualify better than leads called the next day.
- —Script length: trimming 30 seconds from a 2-minute call cuts calling spend by a quarter.
- —Voice tier: Standard at ₹5 costs less than Premium at ₹6.8 and lowers spend; whether it lowers cost per qualified lead depends on qualification rate.
- —Definition: decide in advance which captured fields make a lead qualified, so the count is consistent month to month.
Recalculate monthly. Ad costs, connect rates and qualification rates all drift, and the formula only helps if the inputs come from last month's real call logs rather than from a launch-day estimate.

Follow-up questions
Where does Outpero record whether a lead qualified?
+
You define custom fields for the agent to capture, such as budget, timeline or course of interest. After each call, these appear with the recording, transcript, summary and sentiment in the leads database and analytics, can be exported to CSV, and are sent to your webhook, so qualified leads can be counted in your own CRM.
