Best AI Calling Apps in India (and What 'Free' Really Means)
There is no genuinely free AI calling app for business in India: every option we checked is a free trial, a free platform fee with per-minute charges, or a free chat plan. Outpero gives 50 free credits with no card, which buys about 10 connected minutes at Standard. This guide explains the kinds of AI calling app, what 'free' means for each, and how to test one properly. Outpero publishes it and is one of the options.
What people mean by an 'AI calling app'
An AI calling app is software that places or answers phone calls using a synthetic voice that holds a conversation. The phrase is used loosely, and a search for it returns three quite different things.
- —Phone-side helpers: apps on your own handset that screen, record, transcribe or summarise your personal calls. They help you take calls. They do not make business calls on your behalf.
- —AI voice agents for business: software, usually used through a browser dashboard, that calls your leads and customers or answers your business number, in their language. This is what most Indian businesses mean when they ask about an AI calling app, and it is what the rest of this guide covers.
- —Developer platforms: toolkits that an engineer assembles into a calling agent, with telephony and compliance set up separately.
Outpero is the second kind. It is self-serve at app.outpero.com, so there is nothing to install on your phone, and the calls go out on a business number that is separate from your personal one.
What 'free' actually means: seven different offers
Vendors use the word free for very different things. The table sets out what each offer really includes, from the vendors' own sites as read on 2026-10-14. Gaps are marked as not published.
| Vendor | What is free | What you pay after that | Card needed at sign-up |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outpero | 50 free credits at sign-up (1 credit = ₹1) | Standard ₹5 or Premium ₹6.8 per connected minute; number ₹649 a month; plus 18% GST | No |
| Bland AI | $0 platform fee on its Start plan | $0.14 per minute on Start, with telephony billed separately; Build is $0.12 per minute plus $299 a month | No on Start |
| Synthflow | Building an agent is free, per its FAQ | Pricing page lists enterprise contracts from $30,000 a year; a per-minute rate is not published there | Not published |
| Yellow.ai | A free plan with 500 chat sessions a month | Overage of $0.99 per resolution; no voice rate published; full features through Enterprise sales | Not published |
| Vomyra | None; a seven-day trial costs ₹599 | A paid plan of ₹15,000 a month or more after the trial | Not published |
| VoiceGenie | None; the Trial plan is ₹3,000 for 250 minutes | Starter ₹12,000 for 1,000 minutes; unused minutes expire each billing interval | Not published |
| Ringg AI | None; its FAQ says business-grade voice AI is a paid service | Pay as you go at ₹6 per connected minute plus ₹499 a month per number, with a monthly minimum commitment | Not published |
Three patterns show up. Some offers give you a small balance to spend. Some waive a platform fee but charge per minute from the first call. Some are free only for a different product, such as chat sessions, so they say nothing about the cost of a voice call. A free chat plan is not a free calling app.
What 50 free credits actually buys
One Outpero credit is ₹1, and calls are billed per connected minute. At Standard, ₹5 a minute, 50 credits cover 10 connected minutes. At Premium, ₹6.8 a minute, they cover about 7. Unanswered calls are not billed, and each call log shows the credits it used.
Ten minutes is enough to learn the important things and not enough to run anything real. It is about five two-minute test calls. That is why the credits are best spent on a deliberate test rather than on a live list.
| Use of the 50 credits | Calls | Standard minutes used | What you learn |
|---|---|---|---|
| Language test in your customers' language | 2 calls of about 2 minutes | About 4 | Whether it understands your accent and the English you mix in |
| Interruption and speed test | 1 call of about 2 minutes | About 2 | Whether it stops when you cut in and how long it pauses before replying |
| Ask-for-a-person test | 1 call of about 2 minutes | About 2 | Whether the call is handed to your team with context |
| Outputs check | Read the transcript and summary | 0 | Whether the captured name, number and requirement are correct |
What a real month costs once the trial ends
The free offer is only the start, so price a realistic month before you pick. Take a small business that runs 500 connected minutes a month, roughly 250 calls of two minutes each, on one number. The figures below come from each vendor's published rates and exclude tax and any item the vendor does not publish.
Want to hear this working, not just read about it?
| Vendor | Calculation on 500 connected minutes | Monthly total before tax | Not included or not published |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outpero Standard | 500 x ₹5 = ₹2,500, plus ₹649 for the number with one channel | ₹3,149 | GST at 18%, which brings it to about ₹3,716 |
| Outpero Premium | 500 x ₹6.8 = ₹3,400, plus ₹649 for the number | ₹4,049 | GST at 18% |
| Ringg AI | 500 x ₹6 = ₹3,000, plus ₹499 for the number | ₹3,499 | A monthly minimum commitment whose amount is not stated |
| Bland AI Start | 500 x $0.14 = $70 | $70 | Telephony, billed separately, and no India or DLT detail |
| VoiceGenie Starter | Flat plan of 1,000 minutes | ₹12,000 | Unused minutes expire at the end of each billing interval |
| Vomyra Developer | Flat plan of 2,500 minutes | ₹15,000 | Shown prices are for annual plans |
Flat monthly plans start to look better at high volume and worse at low volume. A plan priced at ₹12,000 for 1,000 minutes works out to ₹12 per included minute, so a business using 500 minutes pays more than twice the Outpero rate for the same talk time. At several thousand minutes a month, the maths shifts, and a flat plan can win. Work the figure for your own volume before deciding.
Which kind of AI calling app suits you
- —You run a clinic, school, showroom or agency and want enquiries called back in minutes: a self-serve AI voice agent, where you pay for connected minutes and need no engineer.
- —You have developers and want to build something custom: a developer platform such as Bland AI, where the per-minute rate and a platform fee are published, and telephony and Indian compliance are your job to assemble.
- —You are a large enterprise with a procurement process: a sales-led platform such as Gnani.ai or Haptik, where pricing comes in a quote.
- —You want your own team to keep calling and just need a dialer: a telecalling tool, not an AI agent. See the guide on auto dialer prices.
Six things to check during any free trial
- 01The language you actually need. Test Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada or Malayalam as your customers speak it, including the English words they mix in. Check that the agent switches to English the moment you do.
- 02The delay. Count the seconds between the moment you stop talking and the moment the agent speaks. Outpero's end-to-end response time is 0.8 to 1.3 seconds on average. Anything over about two seconds feels like a bad line.
- 03Whether it runs on Indian telephony. Ask whether outbound calls leave from a DLT-registered line and whether bulk campaigns are screened against DND. Bland AI's pages checked do not mention India or DLT, and Synthflow numbers bought directly cover the U.S., Canada and Australia.
- 04What happens when you ask for a person. Outpero can transfer the call to your team when a person should take it. Test that, and do not assume every vendor does it the same way.
- 05What you get afterwards: recording, transcript, summary and the custom fields you asked for. Outpero's dashboard has call logs, a leads database and CSV export, and can send results to your webhook.
- 06The real cost after the trial. Add the minute rate, the number rental and GST. Many trial offers hide the number or the monthly minimum.
How to turn a free trial into a decision
Write down three realistic calls from your own business before you start. A property enquiry, a clinic appointment and an overdue payment reminder are different tests. Use real objections your team hears, not polite ones.
Run each script twice: once in your main customer language and once in mixed English. Then repeat the same script with a second vendor. Score each on four lines: understood me, replied quickly, handled the objection, recorded the result correctly. A vendor that scores well on all four in your language is worth paying for. One that fails the language test will fail it on live calls too, however good the dashboard looks.
What a free trial cannot tell you
A test on your own handset does not show how the agent behaves with a stranger who is in a noisy shop, at a bus stop or half-listening. It also does not show pickup rates, which depend on your list, your timing and your calling window. Outpero runs bulk campaigns with scheduling, calling windows, auto-retries and callbacks, and how many calls run at once depends on your channels: a channel is one call at a time, so five channels means five calls at once. A bulk list works through roughly 55 dials an hour per channel.
Once the test calls sound right, run a small live batch of 50 to 100 real contacts, with a calling window that suits them, before you commit a larger list. Listen to ten of the recordings yourself and read the summaries for the rest.
When Outpero is not the right app
If you need Bengali, Gujarati or Punjabi, Outpero does not support them today. If you need SOC 2 or on-premise deployment, look at the enterprise platforms. If you want to build every layer yourself, a developer platform gives you more control. And if you only want to answer your own personal calls faster, you need a phone-side assistant, not a business voice agent.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a completely free AI calling app in India?
+
Not for business calling. Every vendor checked either gives a small trial balance, waives a platform fee but charges per minute, or offers a free plan for a different product such as chat. Outpero gives 50 free credits with no card, which covers about 10 connected minutes at Standard, enough for a proper test.
How many calls can I make with 50 free credits?
+
One credit is ₹1, and calls are billed per connected minute. At Standard, ₹5 a minute, 50 credits cover 10 connected minutes. At Premium, ₹6.8 a minute, they cover about 7. Unanswered calls are not billed, so five short test calls fit comfortably within the free balance.
Do AI calling apps work in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil?
+
Some do and some do not. Outpero supports Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam and Indian English, at the same price in every language. Other vendors name fewer languages or name none, so test the language you need on a call. Do not rely on a language count on a website.
Do I need to install an app on my phone?
+
For Outpero, no. It is self-serve at app.outpero.com and you manage calls from a dashboard in your browser. Calls go out on a dedicated +91 business number, which is ₹649 a month and includes one channel. Your own mobile number is not used for the AI's calls.
What does it cost once the free credits are used?
+
Credits are prepaid and never expire. Calls cost ₹5 per connected minute on Standard or ₹6.8 on Premium, with no setup fee and no monthly subscription. A dedicated business number is ₹649 a month and each extra channel is ₹649 a month. All prices exclude 18% GST. High volumes get custom rates.
Are AI calling apps allowed under Indian telecom rules?
+
Yes, when they follow TRAI's rules on registered calling lines and the Do Not Disturb registry. Outpero calls from a DLT-registered line and screens bulk campaigns against DND. Whoever you choose, ask them how they handle both, and do not call people who have asked not to be called.
The Outpero team builds AI voice agents for Indian businesses, in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam and English. Figures are from Outpero's own product unless another source is named.
