Best Kannada AI Voice Agent (2026): The Bengaluru Test
The best Kannada AI voice agent stays in Kannada when the caller does, follows into English when the caller does, and still gets a name, a budget and an address right, because Bengaluru calls almost never stay in one language. Outpero, a specialist in regional-language voice AI, speaks polite everyday Kannada among seven languages from ₹5/min. The five-step test below uses Bengaluru, Mysuru and Hubballi call patterns, and works on any vendor.
Outpero publishes this guide and sells an AI voice agent, so it has an interest in the answer. The test works on any vendor, Outpero included. The vendor table uses only what each vendor publishes on its own pages, checked on 2026-10-14 (OnDial on 2026-07-30), and says where a competitor is stronger.
Why Kannada trips up voice AI
Kannada has about 43.7 million first-language speakers (Census 2011) and is the working language of one of India's busiest business cities. It is also one of the least served languages in vendor documentation, as the table below shows. The difficulties are different from Hindi's and Tamil's, and most of them come from how Kannada is built and where it is spoken.
One verb, many meanings
Kannada is agglutinative: suffixes pile onto a verb stem and each one changes the meaning. 'Maadbahudaa' (can I do it), 'maadtini' (I will do it) and 'maadkondu' (doing it and then) are one verb with very different consequences. Colloquial speech also contracts words heavily compared with written Kannada, so a model trained on books mishears spoken suffixes, and the suffix is where a yes becomes a no.
Bengaluru is five languages at once
A single Bengaluru caller can move between Kannada, English, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi in a few sentences, because the city's neighbourhoods and workplaces are that mixed. Kanglish, Kannada grammar carrying English nouns and verbs, as in 'book maadi', 'cancel aaytu' and 'confirm maadtini', is the default register for property, car and clinic enquiries.
Outpero's Kannada agent opens in Kannada and switches to English the moment the caller does, in the same voice. Its switching is between Kannada and English. A caller who wants the whole call in Tamil, Telugu or Hindi is better served by a separate campaign in that language, which Outpero also offers.
Neevu, avare and keeping respect
'Neevu' is the respectful 'you' and must hold through the call. The suffix 'avare' attaches to a name as a courtesy, as in 'Ramesh avare', and is easy to omit or misplace. A Kannada customer who hears 'neenu' or a bare first name from a business notices at once.
Numbers, names and two names for every city
Older callers say amounts in Kannada number words such as 'ippattu' (twenty) and 'muvattu' (thirty), while younger Bengaluru callers say 'twenty-five lakh budget ide' with the number in English. Both can occur in one call, so the agent has to follow whichever the caller uses at that moment.
Kannada names often carry initials for a father, a village or a family house, as in 'H. S. Manjunath', and callers vary in whether they say the initials. Place names have old and new spellings in daily use: Bengaluru and Bangalore, Hubballi and Hubli, Belagavi and Belgaum, Kalaburagi and Gulbarga, Mangaluru and Mangalore. A list that says one while the caller says the other is a common cause of wrong addresses.
The coast is a different linguistic picture
In Mangaluru and Udupi many callers have Tulu or Konkani as a first language, though most also speak Kannada. Neither Tulu nor Konkani is an Outpero language. North Karnataka and coastal speech both differ from Bengaluru's, and Outpero does not claim dialect training for either.
The five-step test, with Kannada lines to say
Place the call from a moving auto, a tea stall or a car, somewhere with real noise. Score each step as pass, partial or fail, then read the transcript, since the transcript shows what the agent actually understood.
- 01Call it, as a customer would. Place a live call and time the gap after you finish speaking. About 1.5 seconds feels natural; beyond two seconds, callers repeat themselves and overlap the agent. Outpero's end-to-end latency is 0.8 to 1.3 seconds on average. Also listen for a polite register in the opening line: 'neevu', not 'neenu'.
- 02Switch language mid-sentence. Say: 'ನಾನು test drive ಗೆ ಬರ್ತೀನಿ, but this weekend swalpa busy, next Saturday ಆಗುತ್ತಾ?' (I will come for the test drive, but this weekend I am a bit busy; would next Saturday work?) Pass: the agent catches test drive and next Saturday and answers in the same mix. Then say one sentence in Hindi. This is a stress test, not a pass mark: a good vendor tells you what it will do, for example ask you to continue in Kannada or English.
- 03Interrupt it. In the middle of a sentence say 'ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಇರಿ, ಒಂದು ನಿಮಿಷ' (wait a little, one minute). Pass: it stops immediately and waits. Fail: it speaks over you, which Kannada callers on a busy road will not repeat twice.
- 04Say numbers, names and places. Give 'ನನ್ನ budget twenty-five lakh ಇದೆ', a number as 'ಒಂಬತ್ತು, ಎಂಟು, ಏಳು, ಆರು, five, four, three, two, one, zero' (9876543210), the name 'ಎಚ್. ಎಸ್. ಮಂಜುನಾಥ್' and the place 'Hubli'. Ask for a read-back. Pass: digits, amount and name all match, and Hubli is understood as Hubballi.
- 05Ask something off-script. Say 'ನಿಮ್ಮ ಹತ್ತಿರ EV ಇದೆಯಾ? Exchange ತಗೊಳ್ತೀರಾ?' (Do you have an EV? Do you take exchanges?) when the brief covers neither. Pass: it says it will check and takes a message or passes the call to your team. Fail: it invents an answer.
Bengaluru callers are often on a road with a two-wheeler beside them. Run steps two to four with background noise running, such as a video playing on a second phone. A vendor that only works in a quiet office is not tested for the city it is selling into.
Kannada AI voice agent options compared
Kannada appears less often in vendor documentation than Hindi. The table lists what each vendor says about Kannada and about price on its own pages. Check the vendor's site before deciding, since pages change. Where Kannada is not named, that is stated as a fact about the page, not as a claim about what the vendor can do.
Want to hear this working, not just read about it?
| Vendor | Kannada, as the vendor publishes it | Published price | Where it is stronger |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outpero | Polite everyday Kannada with English switching, one of seven Indian languages | Standard ₹5/min, Premium ₹6.8/min, no setup fee (excl. 18% GST) | Same-day self-serve start; inbound, outbound and broadcast on a DLT-registered line |
| Gnani.ai | Kannada among nine named Indian languages | Not published; book a demo | Regulated enterprises, with on-premise and air-gapped deployment and many certifications |
| SquadStack | Nine Indian languages including Kannada | Typically between ₹2 and ₹5 a minute plus a one-time setup cost, quoted after discovery | Managed pilots with a forward-deployed engineer; lower indicative rate |
| Convin | Kannada among 70+ languages for transcription; its demo voice agent offers English, Hindi and Hinglish | Not published; demo-led | Auditing and coaching of human contact-centre calls |
| Vomyra | Homepage names English, Hinglish, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Bengali among 10+ vernacular languages; Kannada is not in that list | ₹599 seven-day trial; ₹15,000/month developer plan; flat plans from ₹19,999/month | Flat monthly fee for very high volumes |
| OnDial | Lists Telugu, Hindi and English | Not published; demo required | Claims thousands of simultaneous calls |
| Exotel | Voicebot page names Hindi, English and Hinglish; no Kannada named | AI voice agent price not published | Full telephony and contact-centre stack with human takeover |
| Synthflow | Hindi is the only Indian language in its docs language list | Enterprise contracts start at $30,000 annually | Large enterprise integrations and in-house telephony |
The practical reading: if Kannada is named nowhere on a vendor's pages, ask for a live Kannada call before spending a rupee. Gnani.ai and SquadStack name Kannada and are stronger choices for large, managed, compliance-heavy rollouts than a self-serve product.
Where Outpero fits for Kannada, and where it does not
Outbound: test drives, site visits and demos
Instant lead calling reaches a new enquiry within 30 seconds, from Meta lead ads, website forms, Housing.com or 99acres leads through Zapier, Make or a webhook. The pattern fits Whitefield and Sarjapur Road property enquiries, car and two-wheeler test drives in Bengaluru and Mysuru, PU college admissions, IVF and dental consultations, and SaaS demo bookings where Kanglish is the norm.
On the call it can book a real calendar slot, write to a spreadsheet and send a WhatsApp message while the caller is still on the line. Afterwards, the recording, transcript, summary and the fields you asked for appear in the dashboard and at your webhook.
Inbound: the showroom and the clinic line
The AI employee answers calls to your number at any hour, qualifies the enquiry, books the appointment and remembers returning callers. A Hubballi dealership that takes calls only during showroom hours, or a Bengaluru dental clinic with one receptionist, loses enquiries to the engaged tone. Inbound removes that.
Voice broadcast: one message to a list
Broadcast plays a single fixed message, an uploaded audio file or text in Outpero's voices, to every number on a list. It is not an AI conversation and ends when the message ends. Use it for a showroom offer, a service reminder or an admission-date announcement, at a lower rate than conversation minutes.
Where it does not fit
- —Tulu or Konkani lists from the Mangaluru and Udupi coast. Neither is an Outpero language; test with Kannada-speaking leads first.
- —Callers who want the whole call in Hindi, Tamil or Telugu. Run a separate campaign in that language rather than expecting the Kannada agent to follow them.
- —North Karnataka dialect-heavy lists in Kalaburagi or Bidar, where Outpero makes no dialect-training claim. Run a small batch and read the transcripts.
- —Buyers who need air-gapped hosting or a long certification list; Gnani.ai is built for that.
What a Kannada AI calling agent costs
Billing is for connected talk time, from prepaid credits at ₹1 each, with no setup fee, no monthly subscription and no contract. Unanswered calls are not billed. All prices exclude 18% GST.
- —Standard voices are ₹5 per connected minute; Premium voices are ₹6.8. A three-minute test-drive booking call costs ₹15 on Standard or ₹20.40 on Premium.
- —A worked month: 500 booking calls of three minutes is 1,500 minutes. At ₹5 that is ₹7,500. Add a dedicated +91 number at ₹649 for ₹8,149, and about ₹1,467 of GST makes roughly ₹9,616.
- —The number includes one channel, meaning one call at a time. A second line is another ₹649 a month, and you can add or remove channels each month.
- —For comparison, a telecaller costs roughly ₹18,000 a month for one shift and one call at a time. The agent's 1,500 minutes equal 25 hours of talk for ₹7,500 before the number and GST.
Every account begins with 50 free credits and no card required. That is about ten minutes at Standard, enough to run all five test steps from a noisy Bengaluru street.
Who speaks Kannada, and where
Kannada is the language of Karnataka, and the call pattern changes sharply from city to city.
- —Bengaluru: Kanglish by default, with Tamil, Telugu and Hindi mixed in. Property in Whitefield, Sarjapur Road and Hebbal, cars, clinics, edtech and SaaS demos.
- —Mysuru: more Kannada-first calls, tourism, education and two-wheeler dealerships.
- —Hubballi and Belagavi: north Karnataka speech with its own rhythm, trade, dealerships and coaching. Test dialect tolerance here first.
- —Mangaluru and Udupi: Kannada alongside Tulu and Konkani, strong in hospitals, education and hospitality.
The verdict
A Kannada AI voice agent is good when it keeps 'neevu' through the call, follows Kanglish both ways, reads a name with initials and a place under both its names correctly, and admits what it does not know. Outpero is built as a specialist in regional-language voice AI, and the 50 free credits are a fair way to judge that claim in Kannada before committing.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Kannada AI voice agent in 2026?
+
The best Kannada agent is one that speaks polite spoken Kannada, follows a switch into English mid-sentence and replies in about 1.5 seconds. Outpero is a specialist in regional-language voice AI that speaks Kannada among seven languages, from ₹5/min. Test any vendor with a live call from a noisy place and a Kanglish script before committing.
What is Kanglish and can an AI agent handle it?
+
Kanglish is the Kannada-English mix of everyday Bengaluru speech, with English words carried inside Kannada grammar, as in 'book maadi' or 'confirm maadtini'. Outpero's Kannada agent switches to English the moment the caller does, mid-sentence, in the same voice. That switching is between Kannada and English only, so a caller wanting full Hindi or Tamil needs a separate campaign.
Should I call Bengaluru leads in Kannada or English?
+
Open in Kannada. Many tech-sector leads reply in English, but most of the city and nearly all of Karnataka beyond it is more comfortable in Kannada, and opening in it signals respect. Because the agent follows the caller into English at once, opening in Kannada costs little. For Mysuru and Hubballi lists, Kannada-first is the sensible default.
Does it understand north Karnataka or Mangaluru speech?
+
It is built for accented, everyday spoken Kannada, but Outpero has not trained separate models for Dharwad, Kalaburagi or coastal varieties. In Mangaluru and Udupi many callers speak Tulu or Konkani first, and neither is an Outpero language. Run a small batch of real leads from those areas and read the transcripts before scaling.
How much does a Kannada AI calling agent cost?
+
There is no setup fee and no monthly subscription. Connected calls are ₹5 a minute on Standard voices or ₹6.8 on Premium, a dedicated +91 number is ₹649 a month including one channel, and each extra channel is ₹649 a month. New accounts get 50 free credits. Prices exclude 18% GST and are the same in every language.
Can a Kannada AI voice bot answer inbound calls?
+
Yes. It answers calls to your business number 24/7, handles the enquiry, qualifies it, books the appointment, remembers returning callers and logs a recording, transcript and summary. It can transfer a call to your team when a person should take it. Outbound lead calling, bulk campaigns and one-way voice broadcast run on the same number.
The Outpero team builds AI voice agents for Indian businesses, in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam and English. Figures are from Outpero's own product unless another source is named.
