AI Voice Agent Use Cases in India: 25 Real Jobs It Does

An AI voice agent in India does five kinds of work: it calls new leads, books and reminds appointments, chases payments and renewals, confirms e-commerce orders, and answers or returns calls. This guide lists 25 specific jobs under those headings, with the call mode, the trigger and what the agent writes up after each. Outpero publishes it and builds such agents, so it also lists jobs to keep with people.

What an AI voice agent does all day

An AI voice agent is software that makes and answers phone calls, holds a natural conversation and records the result. The useful way to think about it is as a worker with a job description, not a technology. A good job is repetitive, time-sensitive, spoken, and ends with a clear outcome you can write down: booked, confirmed, not interested, call back at four.

Outpero's AI employee does its work in four call modes. Instant lead calling dials a new enquiry within 30 seconds. Bulk campaigns call every number on an uploaded CSV list with scheduling, retries and DND screening. Inbound calls are answered on your business number around the clock. Voice broadcast plays one fixed message to a list and is not a conversation. Each of the 25 jobs below uses one of these.

Every job runs in the caller's language: Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam or Indian English, switching to English the moment the caller does. After each call the dashboard holds the recording, transcript, summary, sentiment and the fields you asked it to capture, and the same data goes to your webhook.

Group 1: Sales and new leads

This is where speed matters most. A lead who enquired five minutes ago is more likely to pick up than one called the next morning, which is why the 2011 Harvard Business Review lead-response study is quoted so often. These seven jobs are the common starting point.

  • —Instant callback to a Meta or Google Ads lead. The form is submitted, the agent dials within 30 seconds, introduces itself as an AI assistant and asks the first qualifying question. Captures: interest, budget, timeline and a preferred call time.
  • —Lead qualification. The agent asks the three or four questions your sales team always asks first, in a natural order, and scores the answers. Your team receives only people who fit, with the transcript attached.
  • —IndiaMART and JustDial enquiry follow-up. Portal leads are shared with several suppliers at once, so the first to call usually gets the conversation. The agent calls as the lead arrives, via Zapier, Make or a webhook, and confirms quantity, location and urgency.
  • —Property-portal site-visit booking. A 99acres, MagicBricks or Housing.com enquiry gets a call asking budget, configuration and possession timeline, then a site visit booked in the calendar. Captures: budget, BHK and visit slot.
  • —Demo booking for software and services. A company that filled in a website form is asked about team size and current tools, then offered two demo slots. The booking goes straight into the calendar.
  • —Cold calling a list you hold lawfully. The agent calls a CSV of contacts, screens against DND, and records interest. Use it only for numbers you may lawfully call, and expect lower conversion than a warm lead.
  • —Quotation follow-up. Three days after a quote is sent, the agent asks whether it was received, whether there are questions and what the decision timeline is, then logs the answer for the salesperson.

Group 2: Appointments and reminders

Appointments are the cleanest AI job because the goal is binary and the script is short. The same agent that books can remind, and the reminder does more to protect revenue than most businesses expect.

  • —Appointment booking. Inbound or outbound, the agent checks the real calendar, offers two slots and confirms. Clinics, salons, coaching centres and service companies use it so staff do not hold the phone.
  • —Appointment reminders and no-show recovery. The day before, it confirms or reschedules; after a miss, it offers a new slot. Captures: confirmed, rescheduled, cancelled, reason.
  • —Test-drive booking. A car or two-wheeler enquiry is called, asked which model and when, and given a test-drive slot at the nearest showroom. Dealerships use the transcript to prepare the salesperson.
  • —Interview scheduling. For recruiters, the agent calls each shortlisted candidate, checks availability, confirms location or link, and records notice period and expected salary on the way.
  • —Event and webinar reminders. Registered attendees receive a call with the time and link, and a quick check that they will join. Captures: attending, may attend, cannot attend.

Group 3: Payments, renewals and follow-up

Money calls need care. The agent must be polite, must state it is an AI and must follow your rules and the regulator's, including RBI conduct norms for recovery calls and IRDAI norms for insurance. Used well, it removes the awkwardness of chasing and the inconsistency of people.

  • —Payment reminders. A gentle call before the due date, in the customer's language, with the amount and how to pay. Captures: will pay, needs a link, disputes the amount.
  • —EMI collection calls. After a missed instalment, the agent asks when payment will happen and records a promise-to-pay date. It does not threaten, and it hands difficult cases to a person.
  • —Insurance renewal calls. Thirty days before expiry the agent reminds the policyholder, confirms interest and passes the renewal request to an agent. It does not quote premiums unless you supply them.
  • —Membership renewal. Gyms, clubs and coaching institutes call members before expiry, offer to renew and record the reason when someone does not.
  • —Loan application and document follow-up. Applicants with pending documents receive a call listing exactly what is missing and a promised date. NBFCs use it to keep files moving.

Group 4: E-commerce and delivery

Want to hear this working, not just read about it?

Cash-on-delivery orders carry the highest return risk, and the telecaller team that used to confirm them is expensive for small order values. These four jobs are among the highest-volume uses.

  • —COD order confirmation. Soon after an order, the agent calls to confirm the product, address and that the customer will accept delivery. Unconfirmed orders are flagged before they ship.
  • —Failed-delivery and RTO reduction. When a courier reports a failed attempt, the agent calls the customer, finds out why and arranges a second delivery slot before the parcel returns.
  • —Abandoned-cart recovery. For higher-value carts, a call asks whether the customer had trouble, answers a question and can send a payment link on WhatsApp during or right after the call.
  • —Delivery address confirmation. Before dispatch the agent reads back the address and landmark, because a wrong pin code is cheaper to fix before the parcel moves.

Group 5: Answering, callbacks and feedback

  • —After-hours call answering. Calls to your business number at night or on Sunday are answered, the enquiry is captured and an appointment can be booked. In the morning your team has a list, not a stack of missed calls.
  • —Missed-call callback. A caller who rang and was not picked up is called back automatically, with the agent referring to the earlier attempt.
  • —Feedback and NPS surveys. After a delivery, visit or service, the agent asks one to three questions and logs scores and comments, which a form rarely gets answered.
  • —Welcome and onboarding calls. New customers get a call that confirms details, explains the next step and answers first questions, a job that is often skipped because nobody has time.

Voice broadcast: a separate tool for one-way messages

Not every job needs a conversation. Voice broadcast plays one fixed message, either an audio file you upload or text spoken in Outpero's voices, to everyone on a list, and the call ends when the message finishes. It suits offers, event invitations, school notices and service alerts, such as a power cut or a changed timetable. It costs less per minute than an AI conversation, though a figure is not published yet.

Jobs to keep with people

An honest list of AI voice agent use cases includes the jobs it should not do alone. Keep a person on large negotiations, complaints from an angry or distressed customer, anything that needs a diagnosis or legal advice, and any conversation where the customer asks for a human. Outpero can transfer a call to your team when a person should take it; do not promise that for every call.

  • —Medical advice, legal advice and investment advice. The agent can book and remind, but it must not advise.
  • —High-value, relationship-led deals where the buyer expects a senior person.
  • —Escalated complaints, bereavement-related accounts and anything involving vulnerability.
  • —Any call where the customer says no to speaking with an AI. Respect it and route to a human.

How to pick your first job

  1. 01Choose a job where speed or hours cost you money today, such as unanswered leads or after-hours calls.
  2. 02Check that the outcome is binary and can be written as fields, so you can measure it.
  3. 03Run it on a small list or a fraction of live traffic with 50 free credits and read the first twenty transcripts.
  4. 04Fix the script and the hand-off rules, then widen the volume.
  5. 05Add a second job only when the first is stable.

Most businesses start with either instant lead calling or appointment reminders, because both have a clear before and after. Pricing is simple: no setup fee, Standard ₹5 or Premium ₹6.8 per connected minute from prepaid credits, and unanswered calls are not billed. Prices exclude 18% GST.

Frequently asked questions

What can an AI voice agent do for a business in India?

+

It can call new leads within 30 seconds, qualify them, book appointments, send reminders, chase payments and renewals, confirm cash-on-delivery orders, answer calls after hours and run feedback surveys. It does each in the customer's language and writes up every call with a transcript, summary and the fields you asked for.

Which AI voice agent use case should I start with?

+

Start where a delay costs you money and the outcome is easy to measure. Instant lead calling and appointment reminders are the most common first jobs, because a new lead called in 30 seconds or a no-show avoided shows up clearly in your numbers within a week or two.

Can an AI voice agent handle collections calls?

+

Yes, for reminders and promise-to-pay conversations, when it is polite, states that it is an AI and follows your rules and RBI's conduct norms. It should not threaten or harass, and it should pass disputes and difficult cases to a person on your team.

Does an AI voice agent work in regional languages?

+

Outpero's agent speaks Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam and Indian English, and switches to English when the caller does, including mixes such as Hinglish and Tanglish. The per-minute price is the same in every language. Bengali, Gujarati and Punjabi are not supported yet.

What is the difference between an AI voice agent and voice broadcast?

+

An AI voice agent holds a two-way conversation and records what it learns. Voice broadcast plays one fixed message to everyone on a list and ends when the message finishes. Broadcast suits announcements and alerts, and is billed at a lower rate than AI conversation minutes.

How much does it cost to run these jobs?

+

There is no setup fee or monthly subscription. You pay Standard ₹5 or Premium ₹6.8 per connected minute from prepaid credits that never expire, and unanswered calls are not billed. A dedicated +91 number is ₹649 a month including 1 channel. All prices exclude 18% GST.
