How do I test an AI voice agent before going live?
Test an AI voice agent through the same path real leads will use — submit your own test form or upload a small list of team numbers — and play difficult callers: interrupt, switch language, ask about price, say ‘not interested’, go silent. Read every transcript and summary, fix the script, and repeat until 20–30 test calls run clean. Then go live on a small slice of real leads first.
A test checklist
| Scenario | What to check |
|---|---|
| Ideal lead who says yes to everything | Reaches the goal, books the slot, captures every field |
| Caller interrupts mid-sentence | Agent stops and responds to the interruption |
| Caller replies in English to a Hindi opener | Agent switches smoothly |
| Price question | Correct figure, no invented discounts |
| Question outside the script | Honest fallback, question recorded |
| ‘I'm busy, call later’ | Asks for a time, records it |
| ‘I never filled any form’ | Apologises and ends politely |
| Silence or a bad line | Checks once, then ends gracefully |
Test the data, not just the conversation
- —Do the custom fields hold clean values, or full sentences that your CRM cannot sort?
- —Does the webhook payload arrive, and do fields map to the right CRM columns?
- —Does a calendar booking create a real event at the right time?
- —Does the WhatsApp message go out with the correct details?
- —Do local names — Whitefield, Kukatpally, Andheri, Velachery — come out correctly in transcripts?
Use real voices and phones
Ask colleagues who did not write the script to take test calls, ideally from a moving car, a busy road or a noisy shop. People who know the script answer too politely; real leads do not.
Soft launch
Go live on one lead source or a small share of leads at low concurrency for the first few days. Read transcripts daily, fix what breaks, then widen. Discovering a mispronounced project name after 20 calls is cheap; after 2,000 calls it is a reputation problem.
Keep a simple log of each test: the scenario, what went wrong, and the script change you made. It stops the same issue being fixed twice and gives the next person who edits the agent a record of why each line exists.
You get 50 free credits at signup — about ten minutes of talk time on the Standard voice at ₹5 a minute, enough for a first round of short test calls. There is no setup fee and no monthly base fee, so testing costs only the minutes you use.
