Outpero

Do AI voice agents get cheaper at higher call volumes?

Short answer

Partly. Outpero's self-serve rates are flat, with Standard at ₹5 and Premium at ₹6.8 per connected minute, so a bigger month costs proportionally more. What falls is the effective cost per minute, because the ₹649 number is spread over more minutes, and custom and enterprise plans go as low as ₹3.5/min, quoted on volume and requirements. Prices exclude 18% GST.

Two different effects

Volume can lower the cost of a minute in two ways. The first is arithmetic: fixed monthly items get spread over more minutes. The second is negotiation: a high-volume operation can ask for a custom rate. On self-serve only the first applies.

Illustrative example: effective cost as volume grows

Illustrative arithmetic on the Standard voice with one dedicated number at ₹649 a month, before 18% GST. The minutes are example figures, not thresholds.

Connected minutes a monthTalk time at ₹5Plus ₹649 numberEffective per minute
300₹1,500₹2,149about ₹7.16
1,000₹5,000₹5,649about ₹5.65
3,000₹15,000₹15,649about ₹5.22
10,000₹50,000₹50,649about ₹5.06

The curve flattens toward ₹5 and does not drop below it on self-serve. Going lower needs a custom rate: at the ₹3.5 floor, the same 10,000 minutes would be ₹35,000 of talk time instead of ₹50,000, if a quote reached that level.

What rises with volume

Concurrency is the cost that grows. A channel is one call at a time, and each extra channel is ₹649 a month. Working those 10,000 minutes on 3 channels adds 3 × ₹649 = ₹1,947 in number and channel fees, taking the month to ₹51,947, or about ₹5.19 per minute. Channels change how fast a list is worked, not how many minutes it uses.

Savings that do not depend on a rate change

  • —Trim the script: every 30 seconds removed from a 2-minute call cuts talk time by a quarter.
  • —Use Standard for short, scripted calls such as reminders and confirmations.
  • —Clean the list and screen DND numbers, so minutes go on people who can actually take the call.
  • —Let unanswered calls retry, since only the attempt that connects is billed.

When to ask about volume pricing

Ask once a rupee or two per minute is a meaningful line in your monthly budget, or when the operation needs integrations and enterprise requirements scoped up front. Run a pilot first so the quote rests on real connected minutes and call lengths. If monthly spend is modest, self-serve is simpler, and credits never expire, so a top-up bought ahead of a peak season does not lapse.

Follow-up questions

Does buying more credits at once lower the per-minute rate?

+

No. On self-serve the rate is set by the voice tier, ₹5 for Standard and ₹6.8 for Premium, not by the size of a top-up. One credit is ₹1 and credits never expire, so topping up in advance is safe, but a lower rate comes from a custom quote.

Does adding more channels lower the cost per minute?

+

No. Channels add the ability to run more calls at once, at ₹649 a month each, and talk time is still billed per connected minute at the tier rate. More channels mainly finish a bulk list inside a shorter calling window. They do not change how many minutes the list uses.
