Can an AI voice agent call customers in their mother tongue automatically based on their state?
Not as one automatic per-contact switch. An Outpero agent speaks one live language, plus English, per campaign. To reach customers in their own language, add a state or language column, split the list, and run one campaign per language. Instant lead calling can be routed the same way if your automation tool can send each lead to the matching agent.
What is and is not automatic
The agent does not read a contact's state and then pick Tamil or Marathi on its own. Language is set on the agent and its script. What can be automated is the sorting that happens before the call, so each customer reaches the agent that speaks their language.
The workflow for a list
- 01Add a state column, and a language column if you have any signal such as form language or an earlier call.
- 02Map each state to a language, for example Tamil Nadu to Tamil and Kerala to Malayalam.
- 03Filter the file into one CSV per language.
- 04Create one agent per language, with a script written natively.
- 05Upload each CSV as its own campaign and run them in sequence or in parallel.
Running campaigns in parallel needs a channel for each, at ₹649 a month per channel, with one included in the dedicated number.
The workflow for new leads
Instant lead calling connects to Meta lead ads, Google Ads forms, website forms and CRMs through Zapier, Make or a webhook. If your automation tool can branch on state, send each branch to the agent for that language. Confirm that setup with Outpero before relying on it.
Where state is a poor proxy for mother tongue
- —Hyderabad has large Hindi and Urdu-speaking communities beside Telugu speakers.
- —Mumbai and Pune contacts may be Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati or English speakers.
- —Bengaluru has many Tamil, Telugu and Hindi speakers who live and work there.
- —Phone number circle follows where the SIM was bought, not where the person lives or what they speak.
Be careful with unsupported states
Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Odia, Urdu, Assamese and Konkani are not supported by Outpero. A state-based rule should exclude those contacts, or send them to Hindi or English only where you know they use those languages with you. Otherwise use a person for the call.

Follow-up questions
Does the agent detect the caller's language by itself?
+
It follows a caller into English at any point. It does not detect and switch between different regional languages, so a Tamil speaker answering a Hindi campaign will have a poor call. The transcript will show the mismatch, and that contact can move to a Tamil list.
Does running several language campaigns cost more?
+
The per-minute price is the same in every language, ₹5 on Standard and ₹6.8 on Premium, excluding 18% GST. The only extra cost is more channels if you want the campaigns to run at the same time.
