Can an AI agent switch between Hindi and English mid-call?
Yes. A well-built AI voice agent follows the caller from Hindi into English and back without restarting the conversation. Outpero's agents switch to English the moment the caller does, even mid-sentence, and keep the same voice, so a caller who says 'haan, but what's the final price?' gets a natural reply instead of a confused pause.
Why mid-call switching matters
Very few Indian business calls stay in one language. A caller in Gurugram may answer in Hindi, ask about EMI in English and confirm the visit in Hindi again. A professional in Pune may start in English and slip into Hindi when the conversation turns informal.
Older voice bots and IVRs handled this badly. They were built for one language at a time, so an English sentence inside a Hindi call came back as noise and the bot asked the caller to repeat.
Three kinds of switching
- 01Word-level: English nouns inside Hindi sentences, as in 'aapka loan approve ho gaya hai'. This is the most common kind and every Hindi agent must handle it.
- 02Sentence-level: the caller answers one question fully in English, then returns to Hindi.
- 03Full switch: the caller prefers English for the rest of the call, often after realising the agent can follow.
Outpero handles all three. The agent replies in the language the caller is using at that moment, mid-sentence if needed, in the same voice.
What it looks like on a call
Agent: आपकी site visit कब रखें, शनिवार या रविवार? Caller: Sunday works, but can you send the location on WhatsApp? Agent: Sure, I'll send the location on WhatsApp right after this call. Sunday 11 बजे ठीक रहेगा?
What switching does not mean
The switch Outpero offers is between your chosen language and English. A caller who moves into Tamil or Bengali needs a different agent; Tamil is available as its own agent, Bengali is not supported at all. Outpero also does not claim per-dialect training, so heavy Haryanvi or Bhojpuri vocabulary may not be understood.
Setting it up
Write the script the way your best telecaller talks: Hindi, with English where English is natural. Keep product terms like EMI, booking and site visit in English. The same switching works for Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada and Malayalam agents, which move into English the same way.

Follow-up questions
Do I need to write the script in both Hindi and English?
+
No. Write one script in the language your callers mostly speak, using English words wherever a real caller would. The agent handles the switch when the caller moves into English. Writing two parallel scripts tends to push both towards stiff, translated phrasing rather than the way people actually talk on a sales call.
