Marathi AI Calling for Pune and Mumbai Businesses
A Marathi AI calling agent speaks to customers in Marathi, with English words mixed in as callers do, to qualify leads, book appointments and send reminders for businesses in Pune, Mumbai and the rest of Maharashtra. Outpero supports Marathi among seven languages from ₹5/min with no setup fee. Pune is the easier Marathi-first market, while Mumbai needs separate lists by language, as this guide explains with example call lines.
Outpero publishes this guide and sells a Marathi-speaking AI voice agent, so it has an interest in the conclusion. The call lines and checks work with any vendor. For a general test of Marathi voice agents, see the separate guide to judging one; this page is about using Marathi in Pune and Mumbai.
Why Marathi is a business decision, not a courtesy
Marathi had about 83 million speakers in Census 2011, and Maharashtra's population was about 112 million. A large share of customers in Pune, Nashik, Nagpur and the outer suburbs of Mumbai think and decide in Marathi, even when the sign over the shop is in English. A call that opens in Marathi tells them the business is local and trustworthy. A call in stiff English or in Hindi tells them it is a campaign.
The rule from Outpero's other language guides applies here too. Callers do not speak pure Marathi on the phone. They say 'site visit saturday la shakya aahe ka', mixing English nouns into Marathi grammar. An agent that cannot follow that mix, or that insists on one language, loses the call within a sentence.
Pune and Mumbai are different calling problems
| Pune | Mumbai | |
|---|---|---|
| Dominant call language | Marathi with English, more than in most Indian cities | Marathi, Hindi and English, often in the same household |
| Strong calling industries | Coaching and colleges, IT parks at Hinjewadi, Kharadi and Magarpatta, automobile dealers in the Pimpri-Chinchwad belt, property in Wakad, Baner and Hadapsar | Property in Thane, Navi Mumbai, Mira Road and Panvel, clinics and diagnostic labs, financial services, ecommerce |
| Main risk | Callers move fully into formal or regional Marathi on long calls | Callers answer a Marathi opening in Hindi and the agent has nowhere to go |
| Practical answer | Marathi as the default, English follow-through | Split lists by language and run a Marathi campaign and a Hindi campaign separately |
| Calling window caution | Evenings and weekends convert; avoid exam weeks for coaching lists | Local-train travel hours mean many calls are taken in noise, so keep calls short |
The Mumbai row matters most. Outpero's Marathi agent follows a caller into English mid-sentence, in the same voice. It does not promise to follow a caller from Marathi into Hindi. So a Mumbai list should carry a language field, filled from a form question, a previous call or a salesperson's note, and each language gets its own campaign. Where the language is unknown, start with the language the lead used on the enquiry form, and read the first transcripts before scaling.
Marathi call lines for common jobs
These openers use the respectful 'tumhi' or 'aapan' register, never 'tu'. Each is followed by an English translation. The agent's gender forms must stay consistent for the whole call, so these examples use a female voice.
| Job | Marathi line | English meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Property lead, Pune | नमस्कार, मी [बिल्डरचं नाव] कडून बोलतेय. तुम्ही वाकडमधल्या 2 BHK साठी enquiry केली होती. आत्ता दोन मिनिटं बोलता येईल का? | Hello, I am calling from [builder]. You enquired about a 2 BHK in Wakad. Can we talk for two minutes now? |
| Coaching admission, Pune | नमस्कार, तुम्ही आमच्या NEET batch बद्दल चौकशी केली होती. तुमचा मुलगा किंवा मुलगी सध्या कोणत्या वर्गात आहे? | Hello, you enquired about our NEET batch. Which class is your son or daughter in now? |
| Clinic reminder, Mumbai | नमस्कार, उद्या सकाळी दहा वाजता डॉक्टरांची appointment आहे. तुम्ही येऊ शकाल ना, की वेळ बदलायची आहे? | Hello, you have a doctor's appointment tomorrow at ten in the morning. Will you be able to come, or do you want to change the time? |
| COD confirmation | नमस्कार, तुमची ऑर्डर उद्या डिलिव्हरीसाठी निघतेय. पत्ता बरोबर आहे ना? पेमेंट cash on delivery आहे. | Hello, your order goes out for delivery tomorrow. Is the address correct? Payment is cash on delivery. |
| Payment reminder | नमस्कार, तुमची ₹4,500 ची फी पाच तारखेला भरायची आहे. मी payment link WhatsApp वर पाठवू का? | Hello, your fee of ₹4,500 is due on the 5th. Shall I send the payment link on WhatsApp? |
Marathi numbers and time words to test
Marathi has its own irregular number words. 'Savva' adds a quarter, 'paavne' takes a quarter off, 'deed' is one and a half and 'adeech' two and a half. So 'savva lakh' is 1.25 lakh and 'paavne don lakh' is 1.75 lakh. 'Saade teen' is 3.5. Say a few of these to any agent and ask for a read-back before you trust it with budgets or fees.
Times work the same way: 'saade dahaa' is half past ten and 'paavne paach' is a quarter to five. A missed 'paavne' on an appointment call is how a patient arrives forty-five minutes late.
Register, names and the honorific
Want to hear this working, not just read about it?
Marathi has a clear respect ladder. 'Tumhi' is the standard polite form, 'aapan' is more formal and 'tu' is for family and close friends, so an agent that slips into 'tu' with a customer sounds rude. Names are usually followed by 'saheb' or 'tai', or a surname with 'sir' and 'madam' borrowed from English, and the agent should repeat whichever the caller uses. A test line such as 'Patil saheb, tumhi bolat aahat na?' (Mr Patil, you are the one speaking, right?) shows quickly whether the register holds across a long call.
Script also matters for the person writing the brief. Write Marathi lines in Devanagari and leave English product words in Roman letters, exactly as a caller would say them, so the brief matches the call and nobody has to guess a spelling.
Where each industry fits
- —Real estate in Pune and Mumbai: 99acres, MagicBricks and Housing.com leads are called within 30 seconds, qualified on budget, configuration and possession, and booked for a site visit. MahaRERA registration numbers belong in the brief so the agent can quote them.
- —Education: admission enquiries from Meta ads in the weeks before a batch or a college intake, when parents are speaking to several institutes.
- —Clinics and labs: reminders, rescheduling and report-ready calls, with the agent transferring to the front desk when a person should take over.
- —Automobile: test-drive booking and service reminders for dealerships in the Pimpri-Chinchwad and Thane belts.
- —Ecommerce and D2C: COD confirmation and address checks in Marathi for Maharashtra pin codes, where a Hindi script reads as foreign outside the metros.
- —Small businesses: an inbound agent answering the shop number 24/7, taking orders and booking visits when nobody is free.
How Outpero handles Marathi
- —Marathi is one of seven live languages: Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam and Indian English. The per-minute price is the same in all.
- —The agent switches to English the moment the caller does, mid-sentence, in the same voice.
- —Modes: instant lead calling within 30 seconds, bulk campaigns from a CSV with calling windows, retries and DND screening, inbound calls answered 24/7, and voice broadcast, which plays one fixed message and is not a conversation.
- —On the call it can book a calendar slot, read or write a spreadsheet, call your API, send a WhatsApp message and transfer the call to your team when a person should take it.
- —Caller memory: a returning caller is recognised and the call picks up from the last conversation.
- —Afterwards: recording, transcript, summary, sentiment and your custom fields, in the dashboard and by webhook.
What it costs for a Pune or Mumbai team
There is no setup fee, subscription or contract. Connected minutes cost ₹5 on Standard voices and ₹6.8 on Premium, from prepaid credits at ₹1 each, and unanswered calls are not billed. A dedicated +91 number is ₹649 a month with one channel included; extra channels are ₹649 a month each. Prices exclude 18% GST.
| Scenario | Connected minutes | Calling cost at ₹5 | With number, before GST |
|---|---|---|---|
| 400 Pune property leads, 2 minutes each | 800 | ₹4,000 | ₹4,649 |
| 1,000 clinic reminders, 1 minute each | 1,000 | ₹5,000 | ₹5,649 |
| Mumbai: 500 Marathi plus 500 Hindi calls, 2 minutes each, one number | 2,000 | ₹10,000 | ₹10,649 |
A human telecaller in India costs roughly ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month, with ₹18,000 as the reference figure. That telecaller works one shift and takes one call at a time, and a Marathi-speaking one in Pune or Mumbai is no easier to find on short notice than any other language.
Limits to know before starting
- —Dialects. Outpero is not trained per dialect. Standard and colloquial Pune and Mumbai Marathi are the target. A caller who moves fully into a Konkan, Varhadi or other regional speech may be misheard, so test a small batch from your own list.
- —Hindi in a Marathi call. The agent does not promise to switch from Marathi to Hindi. Split Mumbai lists by language.
- —Languages outside the seven, such as Gujarati, which many Mumbai businesses also need. Outpero does not support it.
- —Calls that must reach a person from the first ring, such as complaints and legal matters.

Frequently asked questions
Is there an AI calling agent that speaks Marathi?
+
Yes. Outpero's voice agent speaks Marathi among seven Indian languages and follows the caller into English mid-sentence, in the same voice, with no request to choose a language. It qualifies leads, books appointments, sends reminders and answers inbound calls. Test it on your own phone with 50 free credits before running a real list.
Does the Marathi AI agent work for Pune and Mumbai?
+
Yes, with one difference. Pune callers mostly stay in Marathi with English words, which the agent handles. Mumbai households may answer in Hindi, and the agent does not promise to switch from Marathi to Hindi. Split Mumbai lists by language and run a Marathi campaign and a Hindi one separately.
How much does Marathi AI calling cost?
+
Standard voices are ₹5 per connected minute and Premium voices ₹6.8, with no setup fee or subscription, and the price is the same in every language. A dedicated +91 number is ₹649 a month including one channel. A hundred two-minute calls cost about ₹1,000 before 18% GST. Unanswered calls are not billed.
Can it call leads in Marathi within a minute of an enquiry?
+
Yes. A new enquiry from a Meta lead ad, Google Ads form, website form or property portal routed through Zapier, Make or a webhook is dialled within 30 seconds. The opening line is in Marathi, and the call is logged with recording, transcript and summary so your team can follow up without retyping.
Does it understand regional Marathi accents and dialects?
+
Pune and Mumbai Marathi, including the English mixed into it, is what the agent is built for. Outpero is not trained per dialect, so a caller who moves fully into Konkan, Varhadi or another regional speech may be misheard. Run a small batch from your own list and read the transcripts before scaling.
Can the Marathi agent answer incoming calls too?
+
Yes. It answers calls to your business number 24/7, handles the enquiry, qualifies it, books the appointment and logs everything. It recognises returning callers and picks up from the last conversation, and it can transfer the call to your team when a person should take it. Outbound calls run on the same number.
The Outpero team builds AI voice agents for Indian businesses, in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam and English. Figures are from Outpero's own product unless another source is named.
