What should the opening line of an AI call say?
The opening line of an AI call should say who is calling, from which business and why — tied to something the person did, such as the form they filled — and end with a short permission question. Keep it to about 15 words, in the language the lead is most likely to speak, so the person knows within five seconds whether to stay on the line.
The formula
Greeting, name, business, specific reason, permission. ‘Hello, this is Priya from Sunrise Homes — you enquired about our Kondapur 2BHK just now. Is this a good time for two minutes?’ Everything the person needs to decide is in that one breath.
Examples in three languages
Hindi: नमस्ते, मैं ABC Motors से Rohan बोल रहा हूँ — आपने अभी Instagram पर test drive के लिए form भरा था, एक minute बात कर सकते हैं?
Translation: “Hello, this is Rohan from ABC Motors — you just filled a form on Instagram for a test drive. Can we talk for a minute?”
Telugu: నమస్కారం, నేను Sunrise Homes నుంచి Priya మాట్లాడుతున్నాను — మీరు ఇప్పుడే Kondapur 2BHK project గురించి enquiry చేశారు, రెండు నిమిషాలు మాట్లాడొచ్చా?
Translation: “Hello, I'm Priya from Sunrise Homes — you just enquired about the Kondapur 2BHK project. Can we talk for two minutes?”
Tamil: வணக்கம், நான் Chennai Dental Care-ல இருந்து Priya பேசறேன் — நீங்க இன்னைக்கு appointment-க்கு enquiry பண்ணிருந்தீங்க, ரெண்டு நிமிஷம் பேசலாமா?
Translation: “Hello, I'm Priya from Chennai Dental Care — you enquired about an appointment today. Can we talk for two minutes?”
What to leave out
- —‘How are you today?’ — it signals a sales call and delays the reason.
- —Long company introductions or taglines.
- —Vague reasons such as ‘regarding an exciting offer’.
- —Asking the person to confirm their full name and city before saying why you called.
Saying it is an AI
Many businesses introduce the agent as an AI assistant in the first line or the second. It costs little and avoids an awkward moment later. Check the current rules for your sector before deciding.
The opening line is part of the agent you set up, in any of seven live languages. If the caller replies in English, the agent switches to English mid-sentence in the same voice, so a Hindi opener does not lock out an English-speaking lead.
