How are AI call transcripts and summaries generated?
AI call transcripts are generated by speech recognition, which converts the call audio into text and labels which lines came from the agent and which from the caller. Summaries are then written by a language model that reads the transcript and condenses it into the outcome, key details and next step. Both are produced automatically soon after the call ends, so nobody has to listen back.
Transcript: often two passes
During the call, the agent uses a fast streaming transcript to follow the conversation. That version prioritises speed. After the call, many platforms run the recording through recognition again without time pressure, producing a cleaner transcript with punctuation and correct speaker separation.
Because the agent's own lines are generated text, they are known exactly. Only the caller's side needs recognising, which makes speaker labelling simpler than transcribing a call between two people.
Summary: condensing the call
A language model reads the full transcript and writes a short summary, usually guided by a template the business sets. A good summary answers what a sales manager would ask: who was this, are they interested, what did they want, what was agreed and what happens next.
- —Outcome: interested, not interested, call back later, wrong number, booked.
- —Key facts: the details that matter for this business.
- —Objections or concerns raised, close to the caller's own words.
- —Next action, with date and time if one was agreed.
Mixed-language calls
Indian calls often mix languages, so transcripts may contain Hindi, Telugu or Tamil alongside English. Transcripts usually keep the original language, while summaries are often more useful in English so a whole team can read them. Decide which you want and say so in the setup.
Limits to keep in mind
A transcript is only as good as the audio. On noisy or broken calls, some words will be wrong or missing, and the summary may carry those errors. A summary can also flatten nuance, such as hesitation in the caller's voice. For disputed or high-value calls, the recording remains the source of truth.
What Outpero provides
Every Outpero call comes with the recording, full transcript, an AI-written summary, sentiment and the custom fields you defined. They appear in the dashboard's call logs, can be exported as CSV and are sent to your webhook, so the summary can flow straight into your CRM or team tools.

Follow-up questions
Are AI call summaries reliable enough to replace listening to calls?
+
For routine calls, summaries are usually enough to decide the next step, which is why they save so much time. They are not a full replacement for recordings. Listen to a sample each week, especially calls marked negative or with surprising outcomes, and always go back to the recording when there is a dispute about what was said.
