What is the difference between an AI voice agent and an AI dialer?

Short answer

An AI dialer decides who to call and when, connecting answered calls to human agents; an AI voice agent is the one that actually has the conversation. A dialer improves human productivity, while a voice agent replaces the human on routine calls. Some products combine both, so check what the product does after the call connects.

Two different jobs

Dialers have existed for decades. They automate dialling: working through a list, skipping busy numbers and passing connected calls to a free agent. 'AI dialer' usually means smarter dialling, such as predicting the best time to call or ranking leads. The conversation is still held by a person.

An AI voice agent is the conversation. It listens, speaks, answers questions, qualifies and records what happened.

Which should you buy?

  • —Buy a dialer if you already have a good team of telecallers and want them to spend more time talking and less dialling.
  • —Buy an AI voice agent if you want the calls handled without staffing them, especially outside office hours.
  • —Buy both if you want AI to qualify and humans to close, with a dialer for the human team.

A warning on terminology

Vendors use 'AI dialer' loosely. Some mean a dialer with a script reader; some mean a true conversational agent. Ask the question that matters: when the customer answers, who or what speaks to them, and how does it respond to an unplanned question?

Outpero's position

Outpero is a voice agent, not a dialer for human teams. It dials contacts from an uploaded list or an instant lead trigger and holds the conversation itself, handing a call to your team when a person should take it. Calls cost ₹5 or ₹6.8 per connected minute, excluding 18% GST. Outpero publishes this page; if what you need is a predictive dialer for a human floor, Outpero is not that product.

Follow-up questions

Is a predictive dialer legal for Indian businesses?

+

Predictive dialling is not illegal in itself, but calls still have to follow TRAI rules on registration, DND, hours and consent, and abandoned calls annoy people. Ask any dialer vendor how it limits silent or dropped calls and how it handles DND.

Enterprise and custom: volume plans go as low as ₹3.5/min, quoted on your needs.
