How many leads do I need before AI calling makes sense?
AI calling usually makes sense once you have more leads, incoming calls or routine follow-ups than your team can handle within minutes. There is no hard minimum, because Outpero charges only per connected minute with no base fee, but below about ten leads a week a fast human callback is often just as good, unless those leads arrive when nobody is available to call.
Volume is not the only trigger
The better question is not how many leads, but how many leads wait. A clinic with 15 enquiries a week can still lose patients if most arrive after 8 pm when the front desk has left. A coaching centre with 500 leads in admission season and 30 in July has a volume problem for three months, not twelve.
- —Response-time gap: leads regularly wait more than an hour for a first call.
- —Off-hours demand: many enquiries or incoming calls arrive in the evening, at night or on Sundays.
- —Routine call load: someone spends more than an hour a day on reminders or confirmations.
- —Language gap: customers speak a language your team does not.
Rough volume bands
| Volume | What usually works |
|---|---|
| Under 10 leads a week | Call them yourself, fast; AI for after-hours calls and enquiries |
| 10–50 leads a week | AI for instant callback, incoming calls and reminders; one person closes |
| 50–300 leads a week | AI for first contact and redials; a small team closes |
| 300+ leads a week or large lists | AI campaigns with concurrency; the team works qualified leads only |
Why low volume can still work
With no setup fee, monthly base fee or contract, a small business pays only for the minutes it uses. Ten two-minute calls a week on the Standard tier at ₹5 a minute is a little over ₹400 a month in talk time, plus ₹649 if you want a dedicated number. At low volume, the real cost is your time writing and maintaining the script.
The reverse also holds: very high volume does not automatically make AI the answer if your leads are poor. Calling 2,000 junk leads quickly produces 2,000 quick rejections. Fix lead quality at the ad or form level first, then add speed.

Follow-up questions
Does AI calling need a minimum monthly spend?
+
No. Outpero has no monthly base fee and no minimum commitment; you buy prepaid credits that never expire and spend them only on connected talk time. A dedicated phone number is ₹649 a month if you want one. That makes it practical for low or irregular volumes, where a salaried telecaller would sit idle for part of the month.
