Kannada Voice Bot for Business: Voice Bot vs IVR vs Chatbot

A Kannada voice bot is software that holds a spoken conversation on a phone call, where an IVR plays a menu and waits for a keypress and a WhatsApp chatbot answers typed messages. For a Karnataka business, a voice bot suits the first call to a new lead and routine phone enquiries, an IVR still suits routing a few departments, and a chatbot suits customers who prefer to type. The comparison table below sets the three side by side, followed by use cases in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru and Hubballi, a setup path and the limits.

Voice bot, IVR and chatbot: three different tools

These three get mixed up because each can answer a customer without a person. They differ in how the customer reaches them, how they understand language and who starts the conversation. Choosing the wrong one for a Kannada audience is a common reason automation projects stall.

Where WhatsApp fits with a voice bot

A voice bot and WhatsApp work together without turning into a chatbot. On Outpero the agent can send an approved WhatsApp template message from your own provider account (Meta Cloud API, Interakt or AiSensy) during or after a call, for example a confirmation with the visit time. It is a one-way text template. The agent does not read customer replies in WhatsApp, so it is not a chatbot, and Outpero does not sell one.

When each tool is the right one

  • —Choose a voice bot when the customer is on the phone or you need to reach them there, speaks Kannada with English mixed in, and the goal is a booked visit, a confirmed appointment, a qualified lead or an answered routine question.
  • —Choose an IVR when a handful of clear departments must be reached on a main line, and callers know what they want. Keep it short: past three menu levels, callers press zero.
  • —Choose a WhatsApp chatbot when customers already message you, want links or order status, and are comfortable typing. A voice bot does not replace it for those customers.
  • —Use more than one when needed. A common arrangement is an IVR or phone system for routing, a voice bot for the enquiries that menu handles worst and for outbound follow-up, and WhatsApp for confirmations.

The comparison pages on AI voice agents against IVR, against chatbots and against WhatsApp bots go deeper on each pair. This guide concentrates on how the choice plays out in Karnataka.

Kannada voice bot use cases across Karnataka

Karnataka is not one calling market. The tool that works for a Bengaluru apartment-services business does not map one-to-one onto a Hubballi dealership. The table summarises the differences, and the sections below add detail.

CityBusinesses that call a lotA voice bot call worth automatingLanguage mix to expect
BengaluruHome services, interior design, D2C brands, study-abroad consultants, used-car dealersCalling a new enquiry within a minute and fixing a visit or a slotKanglish by default; Hindi, Tamil and Telugu callers on the same list
MysuruHotels and homestays, schools, wellness centres, two-wheeler dealersConfirming bookings and admission visits, and reminding about datesMore Kannada-first, with English for forms, fees and times
MangaluruHospitals, colleges, hospitality and finance branchesAppointment reminders and admission follow-upsKannada with English; many callers also use Tulu or Konkani at home
Hubballi-DharwadDealerships, traders, agri-input sellers, colleges, transportTest-drive and service follow-ups, dealer order remindersNorth Karnataka rhythm, with Marathi and Hindi words near the borders

Bengaluru: speed for services and D2C

A Bengaluru apartment resident who books a deep-cleaning or an interior consultation on a website expects a call back the same hour. A voice bot that dials the enquiry within about 30 seconds of it landing, depending on how fast the lead source delivers it, asks the flat size, area and preferred day, and books a slot catches the customer while the form is still open. The same applies to a D2C brand confirming a cash-on-delivery order, and to a study-abroad consultant qualifying students by course and budget.

Want to hear this working, not just read about it?

The Bengaluru list is mixed. Run a Kannada campaign beside an English or Hindi one on the same account, split by source or area, and let the agent follow a caller who switches to English.

Mysuru: bookings, admissions and the season

Mysuru's Dasara season brings visitors and a rush of hotel and homestay enquiries, and a voice bot can confirm room dates and arrival time in Kannada or English as the guest prefers. Schools and wellness centres use the same pattern outside the festival: confirm the admission visit, remind the parent about documents, and log who is interested. Fewer English-only callers means the Kannada opening matters more here than in Bengaluru.

Mangaluru: hospitals, colleges and mixed home languages

Hospitals and colleges around Mangaluru send appointment and admission reminders to people with a wide range of home languages. A Kannada reminder call with English for times and department names works for most. Because Tulu and Konkani are not supported languages, test a small batch of local numbers and read the transcripts before extending the list.

Hubballi-Dharwad: trade, dealerships and colleges

Hubballi-Dharwad is a trading and commercial centre for north Karnataka. Dealerships follow up test drives and service dues, agri-input sellers remind dealers about orders, and colleges in Dharwad answer admission queries. North Karnataka speech has its own rhythm and vocabulary, so a pilot with local callers shows whether the neutral spoken register holds up before a large run.

Setting up a Kannada voice bot

  1. 01Choose one job: a lead callback, a visit confirmation, an appointment reminder. Write the five facts a successful call must capture, such as name, area, budget, preferred day and decision.
  2. 02Create the AI employee at app.outpero.com, pick Kannada as the opening language, and choose English and, if needed, one extra Indian language.
  3. 03Write the opening line and call script in the Kannada your customers use, with English words where they would use them. Keep it to the goal.
  4. 04Add knowledge from a short text or a web page: timings, locations, fees, what to bring. Small knowledge is read in full; larger material is searched during the call.
  5. 05Connect the source. Meta lead ads, website forms and portal leads can arrive through the lead-intake API or a Zapier, Make, n8n or Pabbly setup guide; a CSV list works for bulk calls.
  6. 06Set calling windows, retries and do-not-call handling, and add a WhatsApp template or Google Calendar booking if the job needs them.
  7. 07Test with the 50 free credits, then run a pilot of 50 to 100 leads and read the transcripts before widening.

Honest limits

  • —A voice bot does not negotiate, handle distressed callers or take legal and medical decisions. Keep people for those conversations.
  • —Each agent covers Kannada, English and at most one extra Indian language. Tulu, Konkani, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi and Odia are not supported.
  • —There is no keypad menu inside the agent. It works by speech, so use it alongside an IVR if you need keypad routing.
  • —WhatsApp is a template send, not a chatbot. Customers cannot continue a conversation with the agent over WhatsApp.
  • —Calling rules apply. Bulk campaigns screen against DND lists, calling hours are limited by platform rules, and consent and registration duties sit with the business. This is general information, not legal advice.
  • —Inbound answering is a mode that is still launching, so confirm availability on your account.

Choosing in one sentence

If your customers phone and speak Kanglish, start with a voice bot on the one call that costs you the most missed leads, keep a short IVR only for routing, and add WhatsApp for confirmations. Pricing is ₹5 per connected minute on Standard and ₹6.8 on Premium with no setup fee, excluding 18% GST, so a pilot costs little to run.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Kannada voice bot?

+

A Kannada voice bot is software that holds a spoken conversation on a phone call in Kannada, including the English words callers mix in. Unlike an IVR it does not ask callers to press digits, and unlike a chatbot it works over a normal call. Outpero calls its version an AI employee.

What is the difference between a voice bot and an IVR?

+

An IVR plays a recorded menu and routes callers by keypress or a few keywords, so anyone with a question outside the menu gets stuck. A voice bot listens to free speech, answers questions from your knowledge and records an outcome. Many businesses keep a short IVR for routing and use the voice bot for enquiries.

Should a Karnataka business choose a voice bot or a WhatsApp chatbot?

+

Choose by how customers reach you. A voice bot suits people who phone, or whom you need to call, and who speak Kannada with English mixed in. A WhatsApp chatbot suits customers who prefer typing. A voice agent can also send an approved WhatsApp template message after a call, which is not a chatbot.

Does a Kannada voice bot work outside Bengaluru?

+

Yes, but test it. Mysuru, Hubballi-Dharwad, Belagavi and the coast each have different Kannada, and Outpero makes no claim of dialect-specific training. It uses a neutral spoken register, so run a small pilot on callers from your own list and read the transcripts before a larger campaign.

Can a Kannada voice bot answer inbound calls?

+

Inbound answering is a mode that is still launching, so confirm availability on your account. Outbound is the established use: instant lead calls within about 30 seconds of a lead arriving, depending on how fast the lead source delivers it, and bulk campaigns with calling windows and retries.

How much does a Kannada voice bot cost?

+

Outpero has no setup fee or subscription. Connected talk time is ₹5 per minute on Standard or ₹6.8 on Premium, a dedicated +91 number is ₹649 a month, and prices exclude 18% GST. New accounts get 50 free credits with no card, enough for about ten minutes of testing.
