How do I keep the human touch when using AI calling?
Use the AI for speed and routine, and keep people for the moments that need judgement, warmth or trust. Write the script in a natural voice and the customer's language, make it easy to reach a person, and follow up promptly on every lead the AI qualifies. The human touch comes from what happens after the AI call as much as during it.
The human touch is a design choice
Customers do not mind automation as much as they mind being treated as a number. An AI call that is quick, clear and useful can feel more considerate than a human call that comes two days late. A human call that reads from a script without listening is not warm either.
Make the AI call feel considerate
- —Call in the customer's own language, with the English they mix in, in a natural register rather than textbook Hindi, Telugu or Tamil
- —Use a short opening that says who is calling and why
- —Let the caller interrupt, and answer the question they asked
- —Use caller memory: Outpero recognises returning callers and picks up from the last conversation instead of starting over
- —Pick a voice tier that suits the brand: Standard for everyday calls, Premium where the voice is the brand
Put people where they count
- —Let a person handle complaints, price negotiation and high-value deals
- —Give the human follower the transcript and summary so the customer does not repeat themselves
- —Call back promptly when the agent flags a request for a person
- —Where enabled, let the call transfer straight to your team
Do not hide the machine
Trust drops sharply when a customer discovers they were misled. Do not script the agent to claim to be a person. Being clear that it is an AI assistant for the business is both honest and usually harmless to the call.
Finally, measure the feeling. Read the transcripts, check sentiment, and ask a sample of customers how the call felt. A human touch that you never check is a hope, not a practice.
A practical test is to listen to ten calls as if you were the customer. Where you would feel rushed, ignored or confused, change the script. Small edits to the opening, the pace of questions and the closing line often change how the whole call feels.
