What is Intent detection?
Intent detection is identifying what a speaker wants to achieve from what they say, for example to reschedule, to ask the price or to decline.

Classic voice bots use a fixed list of intents trained on example phrases, and anything outside the list falls to a 'sorry, I didn't understand' fallback. Agents built on large language models infer intent from context without a predefined list. That matters in India, where callers often signal intent indirectly: 'abhi nahi, next month dekhte hain' is usually a polite deferral, not a refusal.
Misreading intent is expensive in both directions. Treating 'call me later' as 'not interested' throws away a live lead, while treating a polite deferral as a yes wastes a salesperson's site visit.
